“I don’t understand why people think they can go up against steel.”

On September 21, 2015, I was traveling home from the office along a popular thoroughfare in the Sacramento area. I was headed westbound in the right-hand lane of travel. There was a car waiting to merge into my lane of travel. That car was sitting at the exit of a little strip mall for a chance to dart into the flow of thick traffic. The motorist saw an opening right in front of me and surged in at an accelerated rate of speed. He did not even see a bicyclist who was flying by on the sidewalk right where he had just exited. It was horrifying to watch. The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, barely escaped being smashed.

An occupant in the car with me commented, “I don’t understand why people think they can go up against steel.”
